President Donald Trumps MAGA Inc. super PAC is committing at least $10 million to boost Texas Attorney General Ken Paxtons Senate bid against Democrat James Talarico, underscoring the races importance for conservative control of Congress.
According to Breitbart, a new Federal Election Commission filing submitted Saturday shows the group intends to spend $5 million promoting Paxton and another $5 million attacking Talarico, marking MAGA Inc.s first disclosed investment in the fall campaign ahead of the November midterm elections. MAGA Inc. spokesperson Alex Pfeiffer said Saturday that the effort will zero in on Talaricos record on taxation and other left-leaning policy positions that critics say are out of step with Texas voters.
High Tax Talarico wants to take money out of Texans pockets, Pfeiffer said. MAGA Inc. is going to ensure Texas knows about Talaricos radical policies and elects Ken Paxton to the U.S. Senate. Before entering the Texas contest, MAGA Inc.s only major midterm outlay was an $827,000 expenditure aiding Sen. Darline Grahams campaign in South Carolina, with the group otherwise spending roughly $18,000 on a midterm race this year after about $1.7 million in spending last year.
The super PAC has raised approximately $401 million through the end of the second quarter, giving it substantial firepower as Republicans seek to solidify and expand their Senate majority. Trump said Friday that the organization could deploy between $400 million and $500 million of its roughly $1 billion in available funds to support Republican candidates, signaling an aggressive push against Democrat-aligned spending.
Im going to spend whatever amount of money necessary to try and help us, Trump told reporters. Paxton will face Talarico in November after the Democrat defeated Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) in the March primary, while Paxton secured the Republican nomination by unseating incumbent Sen. John Cornyn in the May runoff.
The Texas race is widely viewed as one of the contests that could determine control of the Senate, where Republicans currently hold a 5347 majority. With MAGA Inc. now heavily invested, conservatives are betting that a well-funded challenge highlighting radical Democratic policies will keep Texas firmly in Republican hands and strengthen the partys hand in Washington.
