Floridas Democratic primary voters delivered a sharp rebuke to the partys socialist wing on Tuesday, decisively rejecting a far-left challenge in a key congressional race.
In the newly configured 25th Congressional District, incumbent Democrat Rep. Jared Moskowitz easily fended off Democratic Socialist of America (DSA) candidate Oliver Larkin, securing roughly 63 percent of the vote to Larkins 36 percent with nearly all precincts reporting, according to RedState. The result underscores how even in a battleground state, Democratic voters are not uniformly embracing the radical, anti-Israel politics increasingly fashionable on the progressive left.
Decision Desk HQ projected Moskowitzs victory early in the evening, noting that he wins the Florida US House 25 Democratic Primary as the margin became insurmountable. U.S. Rep. Jared Moskowitz survived a challenge from his left Tuesday night, winning the Democratic Primary in Floridas 25th Congressional District with more than 63% of the vote to defeat Democratic Socialist Oliver Larkin.
Unlike many in his party who have retreated under pressure from the activist left, Moskowitz refused to abandon his support for Israel or distance himself from pro-Israel groups. He openly accepted backing from AIPAC and condemned the antisemitic hatred that has seeped into the Democratic Partys progressive base, a stance that put him squarely at odds with Larkin and his allies.
Larkin, a self-described former Bernie Bro., was boosted by prominent far-left influencer Hasan Piker, a Twitch streamer notorious for his anti-Israel rhetoric, who hosted a fundraiser on Larkins behalf. That alliance did little to sway mainstream Democrats, who instead rallied behind Moskowitzs more centrist, pro-Israel record.
Moskowitz, understandably, did not hesitate to celebrate the outcome. Tonight, Democratic voters sent a clear message. I faced a challenge from the DSA (Democratic Socialists of America). They threw everything at me and I didnt change who I am or what I believe, and the voters overwhelmingly chose the independent-minded approach Ive brought to Congress, Moskowitz said in a statement.
He went on to highlight his willingness to confront both his own party and its extremes. I led the effort to have Kristi Noem fired, Ive taken on this Administration, and Ive taken on extremes in the DSA and won. Now were running in a tough district hand-drawn by Republicans to defeat me, but I plan to win that too.
After securing the nomination, Moskowitz even offered Piker a pointed message of mock sympathy, remarking, My condolences to @hasanthehun. That jab underscored how decisively the DSA-aligned campaign had been rejected in a race the left had hoped to nationalize.
District 25 was one of several Florida seats redrawn to favor Republicans, giving the GOP a structural edge heading into November. Moskowitz will now face Republican Scott Singer, a former Boca Raton mayor, in a general election that will test whether the districts new linesand voters growing fatigue with progressive extremismultimately benefit the conservative cause.
