GOP Rep. Cory Mills was ousted from his seat on Tuesday night after losing the Republican primary for Floridas 7th Congressional District to Ryan Elijah.
According to Gateway Pundit, the defeat comes as Mills faces mounting legal and ethical scrutiny from the Biden Justice Department, which has increasingly been accused by conservatives of targeting outspoken Republicans while turning a blind eye to misconduct on the left. The Justice Department is currently investigating Mills, as reported by ABC News, The Washington Examiner, and MS NOW, raising fresh concerns among many on the right about the selective application of federal power.
The federal probe reportedly centers in part on Mills finances, ABC News said, citing unnamed sources. The Department of Justice is conducting a criminal investigation into Rep. Cory Mills, R-Fla., according to two sources familiar with the matter, adding to the mounting legal and ethical scrutiny facing the embattled congressman, MS NOW reported.
The sources didnt disclose the focus of the DOJ investigation. But a third source told MS NOW at least one person was contacted by the FBI last year about Mills finances, allegations of misconduct and individuals in his orbit, the outlet added, underscoring the opaque nature of the inquiry. The investigations scope remains unclear, though Mills is confronting a barrage of accusations, including domestic violence, stolen valor, and financial crimesclaims that, if unproven, risk becoming yet another example of trial by media.
Earlier this year, GOP Rep. Nancy Mace escalated the pressure by filing a resolution to expel Mills from Congress. Mace accused him of beating women and lying about his military service, a move that many conservatives viewed as internal party warfare at a time when unity against the lefts agenda is sorely needed.
Mills has forcefully rejected the allegations and sharply criticized Maces tactics. This is a woman who continues to try and go after and attack people because she thinks its good for clickbait on social media, and for the simple concept of sensationalizing something that she can fundraise off of, Mills said in April, leaving voters to weigh contested claims, a secretive federal probe, and the broader pattern of politicized investigations that has also ensnared President Donald Trump and his allies.
