Rapper A$AP Rocky, evidently convinced he has mastered the entertainment world, is now openly flirting with a leap into electoral politics.
In a recent appearance on the Jason Lee Show, the Harlem-born artist said he is eyeing a potential run for high office in Congress and praised New York socialist Mayor Zohran Mamdani as a model for his rent control policies and efforts at helping urban communities, according to Breitbart. That admiration for aggressive government intervention in housing will likely raise eyebrows among conservatives who see such policies as destructive to property rights and market stability.
Rocky insisted he is already acclimating to the rituals of campaigning, suggesting he is not entering the arena nave or unprepared. He described adopting the familiar retail-politics routine, Im shaking hands, kissing babies. Look, I paid for the rent for my grandmothers building. She refuses to move out of Harlem, right? And so I paid the rent last Christmas for everybody, all the tenants in her building, he said.
This is not the first time he has floated the idea of seeking office, hinting previously that City Hall might also be in his sights. During a recent interview with Esquire, A$AP Rocky was asked would he ever consider running for mayor of New York City, and his response left the door wide open.
For sure, he explained. I think so, there are a lot of political affairs that need to be addressed, changes that need to be made. I think that I would really do well because Im a guy thats for the people. As Breitbart News reported, A$AP Rockys political ambitions come just a few years after he was released from prison in Sweden in 2019 through the personal intervention of President Donald Trump, who celebrated his return to freedoma reminder that, despite his praise for left-wing policies, his own liberty was secured by a law-and-order conservative president.
