Rep. Mark Pocan (D-WI) dismissed concerns over Antifa as so ridiculous during an appearance on MS NOW Reports, brushing aside the far-left movement as essentially nonexistent.
According to Breitbart, Pocan mocked the idea that Antifa operates as an organized threat, declaring, Antifa is nothing. Theres not like an address to Antifa. The only Antifa I know is a drag queen with that name, right? Its so ridiculous. His remarks came as he discussed a recent State Department report examining Cubas activities and influence inside the United States, a report that has raised alarms among those concerned about foreign meddling and left-wing agitation.
Pocan argued that the administration has exaggerated Antifas role, pointing to a presidential directive. He said, [D]ont forget, the president did a directive, NSPM-7. That basically is saying Antifa is this entity thats causing all of this. Look, Antifa is nothing. Theres not like an address to Antifa. The only Antifa I know is a drag queen with that name, right? Its so ridiculous. Yet, theyre trying to say everything is somehow Antifa or left-related, and its a way to actually stop free speech in the United States.
He went on to claim that the State Departments findings were part of a broader pattern of scapegoating. And thats kind of this report is doing that, again. Its connecting some of those protests against what the United States is doing with ICE or how were treating people on race relations and somehow saying that, now, that its really Cuba, Havana thats doing all of this. Its a ridiculous argument, but Im used to it now because this has become a ridiculous administration.
Pocans rhetoric underscores a familiar divide in Washington, where many Democrats downplay Antifas role even as Americans have watched violent protests, attacks on law enforcement, and assaults on property unfold in cities across the country. His dismissal of concerns about foreign influence and left-wing extremism stands in sharp contrast to conservatives who argue that ignoring these threats only emboldens radicals and undermines national security.
