House Oversight Targets ATF In Explosive Probe Of Biden's Everytown Gun-Control Lawfare Scheme

Rep. James Comer (R-KY) is pressing the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) for internal records that could reveal whether Biden administration officials coordinated with Mike Bloomberg-backed Everytown for Gun Safety to wage legal warfare against the firearms industry.

According to Breitbart News, Comer, who chairs the House Oversight Committee, is steering a panel inquiry into potential collusion between federal officials and the well-funded gun-control group. The investigation zeroes in on whether a now-defunct Biden office may have collaborated with Everytown to help facilitate its lawsuit with the city of Chicago against the gunmaker Glock Inc., as FOX News reported.

In a June 24, 2026, letter to the ATF, Comer made clear that the committee is probing whether the Biden administration used activist groups to do what it cannot lawfully do itself. These records will inform the Committee as to whether the Biden Administration and Everytown colluded to attack private gun manufacturing companies through lawfare to circumvent Second Amendment rights, Comer wrote.

The letter demands that ATF turn over a broad range of communications that could expose any behind-the-scenes coordination with Everytown and its legal arm. Comers focus reflects a growing concern among conservatives that the left is weaponizing lawfare to erode constitutional protections and punish lawful gun makers for crimes committed by criminals.

Under Comers directive, the ATF must produce all documents and communications between any ATF employee, Everytown for Gun Safety, and Everytown Law related to the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act, PLCAA, Chicago litigation, Glock switches, auto sear, conversion devices, gun control litigation, Illinois Firearms Industry Responsibility Act, IFIRA, gun retailers, Smith & Wesson, and Ruger. These terms encompass both the federal shield law that protects gun manufacturers from frivolous lawsuits and the newer state-level efforts, like IFIRA, that seek to undermine those protections through creative legal theories.

On March 19, 2024, Breitbart News reported that Chicagos lawsuit against Glock was launched in partnership with Everytown, underscoring the groups central role in the broader anti-gun strategy. If Comers inquiry confirms that Biden officials quietly aided such efforts, it would reinforce conservative warnings that the administration is attempting to sidestep Congress, the courts, and the Second Amendment by outsourcing its gun-control agenda to activist litigators.
