Democrat Senator Ruben Gallego of Arizona, a close ally of disgraced California Congressman Eric Swalwell, is once again under scrutiny as his carefully crafted image of a devoted family man collides with a troubling personal and financial record.
According to the Gateway Pundit, Gallego has already faced serious allegations of using campaign funds for luxury outings, vacations, child care, and even Super Bowl tickets, raising questions about his judgment and respect for donors money. His long-standing friendship with Swalwell, who has been dogged by national security and ethics concerns, has only intensified speculation about Gallegos own conduct, including accusations that he was entangled in Swalwells sexual escapades.
In an apparent attempt to rehabilitate his public persona, Gallego recently posted a video on X in which he highlighted his supposed sacrifice as a husband and father, boasting, My daughter Isla was born right in the middle of my Senate campaign. One of the most competitive races in the country. And instead of staying out there campaigning, I took two months off. He continued, My wife had just been through an unplanned C-section. I wanted to be there for her, and for our newborn because being a husband and a father matters more to me than any campaign, or any job.
Critics quickly pointed out that this good guy narrative applies only to his second marriage, not his first. Divorce records obtained by the Washington Free Beacon reveal that Gallego left his first wife, Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego, when she was nine months pregnant and expected to give birth any day, even demanding that she pay his legal fees.
The Gateway Pundit further reported that Gallego fought a ten-month legal battle, all the way to the Arizona Supreme Court, in a failed attempt to keep those divorce records sealed, a move that reportedly cost his campaign over one million dollars. Yet despite this costly and unsuccessful effort to bury the past, Gallego still chose to present himself publicly as a model husband and father.
Conservatives were swift and unsparing in their response to his video. The campaign account for Kari Lake asked pointedly, To clarify: this child is from your second marriage, after you left your first wife nine months pregnant to be with your lobbyist mistress correct?
From the White House, Special Assistant to the President & Deputy Press Secretary Abigaill Jackson weighed in on Gallegos judgment and messaging. Hes either terribly arrogant or has zero self awareness. Probably both, she remarked, before adding, And whos running his comms operation that thought this post would go over well?
For voters who still believe character matters, Gallegos attempt to rebrand himself as a family-first candidate collides head-on with a documented history of abandoning a pregnant wife, fighting to hide court records, and facing serious questions about campaign spending. As the Senate race intensifies, his own words and actions may prove harder to outrun than any Republican opponent.
