President Donald Trump paid tribute to West Virginia mother Melody Wolfe at a White House Mothers Day ceremony on Wednesday, honoring her courage and her sons sacrifice after West Virginia National Guard Staff Sgt. Andrew Wolfe was gravely wounded while serving in Washington, DC.

During his remarks, President Trump praised the young guardsmans progress, telling the audience that Andrew has made an "incredible recovery."

The President recounted how Andrew was shot in the head in November 2025 while on patrol in Washington, DC, part of a broader effort to reinforce law and order in the capital after years of lax enforcement and unrest. Afghan national Rahmanullah Lakanwal has been charged in connection with the attack, which also claimed the life of National Guardsman Sarah Beckstrom.

Last year, Melodys 24-year-old son, Andrew Wolfe, of the West Virginia National Guard, was on patrol in Washington, DC, helping to restore law and order to our capital city, Trump said, underscoring the missions importance to public safety. He was ambushed by a terrorist and shot in the head.

Doctors initially doubted Andrew would survive, Trump noted, yet he recalled speaking with Melody, who never wavered in her belief that her son would pull through. She was right, Trump said, explaining that he regularly checked on Andrews condition and that the soldiers recovery surpassed medical expectations.

The President credited Melodys unshakable optimism, saying she had effectively willed her son back to good health through faith and determination. During his remarks, he cited Isaiah 41:10, quoting, Do not fear, for I am with you, and said that with Gods help, Andrew has made an incredible recovery.

Trump also reminded attendees that he had awarded Andrew the Purple Heart during his State of the Union address, a recognition of both sacrifice and service. Wolfe later addressed the gathering, reflecting on the outpouring of support her family received in the wake of the shooting, saying, "We had the nation behind us at a time when nobody thought our boy would make it.

She explained that Andrew faces additional surgeries in September but said the family remains hopeful he will soon be able to live independently, a testament to both medical progress and personal grit. "We have a strong faith in God, and God is what brought our son through this, she said, offering a reminder that faith, family, and national solidarity still matter deeply in a country too often divided by politics.
