Operation Pacific Viper Strikes AgainInside The $33 Million Cocaine Bust Trump Ordered At Sea

A U.S. Coast Guard cutter patrolling the Eastern Pacific intercepted a narco-terrorist vessel and seized more than $33 million in cocaine, underscoring the aggressive maritime drug enforcement posture ordered by President Donald Trump.

According to Western Journal, the Coast Guard cutter Escanaba confiscated 4,510 pounds of cocaine, valued at $33.9 million, after a Department of Homeland Security patrol aircraft spotted a suspicious vessel whose crew began tossing suspected contraband into the sea. The interdiction took place off the coast of Ecuador, where an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter was launched to support the operation and track the smugglers movements in coordination with the cutter.

The DHS release explained that the Escanaba deployed its over-the-horizon cutter pursuit boat crew and relaunched the helicopter aircrew to recover the contraband. This coordinated air-and-sea response reflects the kind of robust, forward-leaning enforcement that has become a hallmark of President Trumps renewed war on the cartels.

The mission was conducted under Operation Pacific Viper, a major counter-narcotics campaign in the Eastern Pacific. A 2025 news release noted that Operation Pacific Viper is part of a wider effort ordered by President Trump to combat foreign drug cartels in Latin America.

During these ongoing operations, the administration has made clear that it intends to use decisive force rather than symbolic gestures. As the release stated, the men and women of the Coast Guard will continue deploying overwhelming force against the cartels, cutting off the flow of drugs into the United States and put an end to the cartels reign of terror.

Early results from the initiative have been substantial, reflecting a strategy that prioritizes interdiction far from U.S. shores. The release noted that the first 19 operations netted a total of illegal drugs worth $473 million, including 61,740 pounds of cocaine and about 14,400 pounds of marijuana.

Following the Escanabas latest seizure, DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin emphasized the central role of maritime power in the broader anti-cartel campaign. He said that Operation Pacific Viper plays a central part of President Trumps fight against the cartels at sea, cutting off their ability to make money by trafficking their poison into our country.

Mullin highlighted both the scale of the crackdown and its life-saving impact on American communities. This operation has already seized over 215,000 pounds of cocaine and has arrested over 160 suspected narco-traffickers. The brave men and women of the Coast Guard are saving American lives by keeping these deadly drugs out of our communities and off our streets, he added.

The Coast Guard, according to the release, has surged cutters, aircraft, and tactical teams to interdict, seize, and disrupt the flow of cocaine and other illicit drugs. Officials stressed that These efforts are a critical part of the Trump administrations strategy to fight narco-terrorism and dismantle transnational criminal organizations.

Through Operation Pacific Viper alone, the Coast Guard has now taken in 215,000 pounds of cocaine and detained 160 suspected narco-traffickers, a level of enforcement that reflects a clear policy choice to confront cartels rather than accommodate them. In one November 2025 seizure, the Coast Guard cutter Stone offloaded more than 49,000 pounds of illicit drugs worth $362 million, signaling that the administrations hard-line approach at sea is inflicting serious financial damage on the criminal networks that profit from poisoning Americans.
