Sen.
Lindsey Graham (R-SC) is casting President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as historic wartime leaders whose joint campaign against Iran marks a turning point in the struggle against radical Islamist terror.
Appearing on Fox News Channels Hannity, Graham lavished praise on the two leaders for authorizing decisive strikes on Iran, arguing that their actions place them in the company of the giants of the 20th century. According to Breitbart, he likened the pair to Franklin Roosevelt and Winston Churchill, invoking the memory of World War II to underscore what he sees as the moral clarity and strategic necessity of their response to the worlds leading state sponsor of terrorism.
Graham also singled out Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) for breaking with the progressive wing of his party on Israel and national security. John Fettermans big enough to be three Democratic senators, he said. Hes going to be seen in history as a very commonsense guy. John Fetterman loves his country, and hes not afraid to say Israels the good guy and the Ayatollah is the bad guy.
The South Carolina Republican argued that Democrats who oppose robust military action against Tehran are aligning themselves with weakness in the face of terror. Democrats are associating themselves with opposing a military operation to take down the largest state sponsor of terrorism, which theyve opposed in the past, he said, before declaring, Bibi and Trump are the modern Roosevelt-Churchill combination. Bibi and President Trump are Roosevelt-Churchill, two great wartime leaders working together to bring down evil.
Graham warned that the Iranian regimes ambitions extend far beyond the Middle East and directly threaten American lives. Iran would kill Americans in large numbers if they could. If they could get build a missile to hit us, they would hit us, Graham continued. If they had a nuclear weapon, they would use it. Their proxies, Hezbollah, Hamas, the Houthis, have American blood on their hands. Hezbollah killed 220 marines and 18 soldier sailors in 1983.
He described the Islamist regime in Tehran as ideologically irredeemable and compared its fanaticism to that of Nazi Germany. So, these people are religious Nazis. You can no long you could no more convince the Ayatollah to give up his religious Nazis views than you could convince Hitler to stop killing all the Jews, Graham said, arguing that only regime change can unlock a durable peace. Normalizations the big prize. When this regime falls, and it will, Im going to do everything I can to restart negotiations between Saudi Arabia and Israel.
For Graham, the strategic and spiritual stakes of Arab-Israeli normalization could not be higher. The biggest change in a thousand years would be if the keeper of the holy mosque, Saudi Arabia, the center of Islam, would recognize the one and only Jewish state, effectively ending the Arab-Israeli conflict forever. And therell be one person responsible for that, President Donald J. Trump.
The senator closed by placing President Trumps legacy above that of the conservative icon of the late 20th century. He added, Your legacy, my friend, is beyond Reagan, and its going to go to the stratosphere. If you can bring about normalization, peace between Saudi Arabia and Israel, ending the Arab-Israeli conflict thats been going on for hundreds, if not thousands of years, you will have done something no other president has ever done, and quite frankly, no other world leader has done.
Graham framed Trumps willingness to confront Tehran as a hard-earned lesson from the bloodiest chapters of modern history. Ive never been more proud of President Trump than I am right now. He saw evil. He confronted it. Those hundred million people who died that you mentioned in your opening monologue, they died because people ignored evil and they let it get out of hand.
