A Democrat candidate in California who has publicly advocated defunding the Pentagon is married to a senior engineer at a defense contractor whose missiles are believed to have been used in recent U.S. strikes against Irans Islamic regime.
Fatima Iqbal-Zubair, running for Californias 65th Assembly District, is married to Fazlul Zubair, an engineering manager at Raytheon, the defense giant that rebranded as RTX Corporation in 2023, according to Breitbart News. The New York Post reported Monday that Raytheon-built missiles are believed to have been part of the joint U.S.-Israeli operation that struck Iranian targets on Saturday, an operation aimed in part at ensuring the Tehran regime will never have the capability to threaten the world with nuclear weapons.
President Donald Trump confirmed that Irans Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei was dead following the strikes, underscoring the gravity of the confrontation. When the California Post pressed Iqbal-Zubair on the apparent conflict between her anti-Pentagon rhetoric and her husbands role at a major weapons manufacturer, the candidate refused to address the issue, saying only, I have no comment.
Screenshots from a since-deleted X account from 2022 show Iqbal-Zubair allegedly calling to demilitarized our entire world & defund the Pentagon. Those remarks place her firmly on the far-left flank of the Democratic Party at a moment when the United States is facing escalating threats from Iran and other hostile regimes.
In February 2025, the New Arab highlighted Iqbal-Zubair as a Muslim immigrant who believes Democrats lost in 2024 because they are disconnected from ordinary Americans. I launched my race because frankly Im disappointed by how the Democrats messaged in the last election. They didnt campaign to the working class. They wavered on Palestine, she told the outlet, signaling her alignment with the partys most radical, anti-Israel voices.
The same article featured a photograph of Iqbal-Zubair alongside Squad member Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN), who on Saturday claimed President Trump was dragging this nation into an illegal and unjustified war with Iran without congressional authorization, without a clear objective, and without any imminent threat to the United States. Iqbal-Zubair amplified similar rhetoric by reposting a video of Rep. Ro Khanna (D-CA) asserting, Trump has launched an illegal regime change war in Iran with American lives at risk.
The Post further noted that Iqbal-Zubair backs aggressive climate change policies, adding another layer of hard-left ideology to her platform. Her refusal to explain the disconnect between her calls to dismantle Americas military strength and her familys financial ties to a leading defense contractor raises questions about both her judgment and her credibility at a time when national security is once again front and center.
