Actor Bryan Cranstons Daughter Uses Red Carpet To Blast ICE

HBO Maxs The Pitt actress Taylor Dearden used the Independent Spirit Awards red carpet on Sunday to deliver a sweeping defense of mass immigration and to denounce federal immigration enforcement.

Dearden, the daughter of Breaking Bad star Bryan Cranston, appeared wearing an ICE OUT pin and told Variety, Im a third generation Angeleno, which is apparently very rare, but there is no L.A. without immigrants. According to Breitbart, the 33-year-old performer framed her remarks as a response to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, echoing the entertainment industrys increasingly strident opposition to immigration law enforcement.

Expanding on her comments, Dearden launched into a rambling critique of current policy, saying, And it feels like its such an assault on everyone, at all times, and, I think, especially as an Angeleno, we feel especially proud of our immigrants, and it feels like it is hard, and I think the more we talk about it, the more we try and remind everyone how weird it is and its not normal and its not okay, the better, hopefully. She portrayed the situation in apocalyptic terms, insisting, You have to be hopeful, before adding, Its still really scary, and its hard to figure out how to stop it, but I think with us talking about it, filming everything that happens, and alerting friends and neighbors, everything we can do, it all helps.

Pressed on whether entertainers should be weighing in on politics, Dearden argued that celebrity status carries a moral obligation to advocate for what she considers a universal good. If youre given a platform for some reason or another, whether or not youre an artist or anything else, I dont know, I think it is a bit of a responsibility to use the platform for what you feel is an objective good, she said, while carefully avoiding any substantive discussion of specific legislation or border policy.

I mean, not get into the nitty gritty of individual policies, but I think something that is so objectively bad needs to be called out, the 101 Ways to Get Rejected actress added, dismissing the details that concern most voters and lawmakers. Her comments reflect a broader trend in Hollywood, where high-profile figures routinely condemn the enforcement of democratically enacted immigration laws, even as communities across the country grapple with the costs of unchecked illegal immigration and demand stronger border security long championed by conservatives and President Donald Trump.
