A long-stalled stretch of the southern border wall is finally moving forward after the Biden-era pause on construction.
According to Sean Hannity, Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem announced on Tuesday that she has signed the final contract for the purchase of steel needed to resume building the wall, declaring in an X post, Build baby build. The decision removes a major bureaucratic obstacle after DHS had delayed nearly 200 miles of planned barriers while it reviewed existing contracts for regulatory compliance.
Conservatives quickly applauded the development on X, hailing it as a long-overdue course correction on border security after years of Democrat obstruction and open-border rhetoric. Arizona Rep. Andy Biggs, a leading immigration hawk, wrote, As an Arizona native, I know how important it is to have a secure border, adding, Ive introduced legislation to ensure the completion of the U.S.-Mexico border wall, and Im excited to see our nations leadership prioritizing this important action.
Noem, who recently toured Nogales, Arizona, emphasized that the effort is not merely about steel but about a modern enforcement system that supports frontline agents. She highlighted progress on smart wall systems that combine steel bollards with advanced technology, access roads, and lighting to strengthen deterrence and rapid response along high-traffic corridors.
As of Jan. 26, Customs and Border Protection had completed 29.5 miles of border wall during the second Trump administration, including 12 miles installed in just the previous 45 days. That pace reflects a renewed commitment by Republican leadership to restore the physical and political will to control the border after years of record illegal crossings.
In 2025, Republicans secured $46.5 billion for border security projects in the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, a sweeping package that underscored the partys law-and-order priorities. The result, once current and future projects are finished, will be that more than 1,400 miles of the southern border will be protected by a physical barrier designed to deter illegal crossings and reassert American sovereignty.
