The former ICE director, now serving as Border Czar under President Donald Trump, disclosed the figures in a detailed statement on social media, underscoring what he portrays as a massive failure of the previous administrations border and child-safety policies. According to One America News, Homan emphasized that the Biden team turned over these minors to unvetted sponsors, lost track of, and werent looking forward, leaving federal agents to clean up the mess.
The dedicated, talented, and compassionate men and women of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and the Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) at U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) continue to tirelessly to run down hundreds of thousands of leads and work numerous investigations to locate more than 300,000 unaccompanied alien children that the Biden Administration turned over to unvetted sponsors, lost track of, and werent looking forward, Homan wrote on X on Friday.
Through their outstanding efforts, they have so far been able to locate more than 145,000! he added, crediting frontline agents and investigators for what he framed as a monumental recovery effort.
The Department of Homeland Security, in an online statement tied to its Blue Campaign, acknowledged the grave dangers facing unaccompanied minors who cross the border illegally.
The Blue Campaign is billed as a public awareness initiative to educate Americans about human trafficking, including how to recognize it and how to respond to it, and is built on two core principles: Prevention of human trafficking and protection of exploited persons.
These children often face harrowing journeysexposed to human traffickers, smugglers, and others who seek to take advantage of their vulnerability, the DHS stated, underscoring the human cost of lax border enforcement. What began as an escape to safety can become a pathway to exploitation, the department warned, effectively confirming what border-security advocates have argued for years about the consequences of open-border policies.
DHS further outlined the official process once an unaccompanied alien child is taken into custody by immigration authorities, stressing that the minor is transferred to the Office of Refugee Resettlement.
The ORR, the department said, provides food, shelter, medical care, and emotional support while working to place the child in a safe, stable home with a vetted sponsorsomeone who can care for the child while they await immigration proceedings.
Sponsors, in theory, must pass background checks and are responsible for ensuring that the child appears at all immigration hearings. Yet the sheer number of missing or unaccounted-for minors under the Biden administration raises serious questions about how rigorously those safeguards were enforced and whether ideology took precedence over basic child protection.
Despite the well-documented risks of trafficking, exploitation, and abuse, the Biden White House permitted hundreds of thousands of unaccompanied children to enter the country illegally.

The border czar was also recently dispatched to Minnesota to oversee ICE operations after two fatal shootings involving anti-ICE protesters in Minneapolis: Renee Good, who authorities say struck an officer with her vehicle while attempting to flee orders to exit, and Alex Pretti, who officials report violently resisted as they tried to disarm him.
At a Thursday press conference, Homan sharply criticized Democrat politicians now demanding that ICE withdraw from the state, accusing them of selective outrage and political grandstanding.
