A 51-year-old man is in custody in Georgia after his 12-year-old child reportedly called police from a closet, leading officers to a grisly scene where four adults had been shot to death inside a suburban home.
The killings occurred early Friday at a residence on Brook Ivy Court in Lawrenceville, a typically quiet community now shaken by the violence, according to The Blaze. Authorities said officers entered the home at about 2:30 a.m. and discovered four deceased adults, along with the 12-year-old caller still hiding in a closet with two other children, ages 10 and 7.
The victims were identified as homeowners 37-year-old Nidhi Chander and 38-year-old Harish Chander, along with their relatives 43-year-old Meemu Dogra and 33-year-old Gourav Cumar. Four people dying at the same time, especially with children in the home ... it's shocking to anybody, one official noted, capturing the horror of a crime that underscores the breakdown of basic family and community safeguards.
Police said suspect Vijay Kumar was tracked down by a K-9 unit and arrested while allegedly attempting to hide in a nearby wood line. Investigators indicated that Kumar and his wife, Dogra, had argued in Atlanta before driving with their 12-year-old to the Chander residence, though the motive remains unclear.
"It is unknown at this time what the argument was about, why they came to the residence, or what led up to the incident," police said in a statement on social media, highlighting the many unanswered questions still surrounding the case. Officers credited the childs swift call for help with enabling them to reach the scene while the suspects vehicle was still present, and the three children were found physically unharmed.
"It's definitely a tragic situation. Four people dying at the same time, especially with children in the home ... it's shocking to anybody," said Gwinnett Police Cpl. Angela Carter, emphasizing the emotional toll on first responders and the community. Kumar now faces charges of malice murder, felony murder, cruelty to children in the first degree, and two counts of cruelty to children in the third degree, as the justice system moves to respond firmly to an act of violence that has devastated an entire family.
