CNN's Jake Tapper has acknowledged a shift in political leanings among Generation Z, suggesting they may lean more conservative due to the imposition of left-wing ideologies in educational settings.
This observation aligns with recent polling data indicating that Gen Z exhibits more conservative tendencies compared to the preceding Millennial generation.
In a conversation with Reason's Nick Gillespie, Tapper shared his insights on the political landscape, stating, My impression of millennials and Gen Z is there's actually going to be quite a division between them." He elaborated, My impression of Millennials was that they are fairly, obviously there are exceptions, but they're fairly progressive, and I think Gen Z is going to be a lot more conservative."
According to The Post Millennial, Tapper attributes this shift to a reaction against the progressive views imposed by Gen Xers and Millennials in educational environments. Just my experience knowing Gen Z kids, my kids and their friends and whatever. I sense much more skepticism of, and I think it is a reaction to Gen Xers and Millennials forcing on them progressive views in school, he remarked.
Tapper also noted that President Trump performed better with younger voters than the GOP typically does, attributing this to the perceived shortcomings of progressive movements. He commented on the failures of initiatives like Bernie Sanders' campaigns, Black Lives Matter, and the Me Too movement, as well as the impact of COVID-19 policies, as factors contributing to Gen Z's conservative shift.
Whether it's Bernie Sanders, whether it's Black Lives Matter, whether it's Me Too, uh I think it's Covid, I think it's um a lot of progressive politics being forced down their throats in school, he explained.
In addition to their political inclinations, surveys indicate that Gen Z, particularly young men, are more frequently attending church compared to older generations, suggesting a broader cultural shift towards traditional values.
