The former FBI Director, James Comey, who was instrumental in the controversial investigations into Donald Trump over unproven allegations of "Russia collusion," now finds himself in the crosshairs of the Department of Justice (DOJ).
Comey has been indicted on federal charges of making a false statement to Congress and obstructing a congressional investigation related to his Senate testimony in 2020.
The charges stem from Comey's denial that he authorized anonymous leaks to the press about the classified emails case involving Hillary Clinton and the fabricated allegations of Trump's ties to Russian election interference plots.
John Solomon, a journalist at Just the News, reports that the DOJ has evidence contradicting Comey's claims. Federal prosecutors disclosed on Monday that they have discovered a collection of personal emails in which Comey openly discussed his expectations of working for President-elect Hillary Clinton in the days leading up to the 2016 election.
The emails also revealed that Comey was kept informed by a top FBI aide about efforts to anonymously leak information to the media.
The lead prosecutor in the case, Lindsey Halligan, released handwritten notes that were discovered by the FBI. These notes clearly indicate that Comey was fully aware of his assistant's media leaks. One of the notes even includes Comey's words of praise, "good job my friend!" The notes also suggest that Comey anticipated working for President-elect Hillary Clinton after the election.
The DOJ contends that these emails substantiate that Comey was aware of the leaks, sanctioned them, yet testified otherwise. Halligan's filing stated that the emails demonstrated Comey was cognizant of and supportive of Richman's interactions with the media, contradicting his assertions to Congress.
In addition to the email revelations, prosecutors also refuted Comey's attempt to have the case dismissed on the grounds of "vindictive" prosecution. They urged the federal judge presiding over Comey's criminal case to reject his claims of being prosecuted vindictively at President Donald Trump's behest.
According to RedState, the prosecutors defended Trump's social media posts calling for Comey's prosecution in a court filing. They argued that Comey's allegations of 'glaring constitutional violations' resulting in his indictment for making a false statement to Congress and obstructing a Congressional investigation were unfounded.
They asserted that when the stringent legal standard is applied to the facts, it is evident that Comey has failed to demonstrate that the Constitution necessitates the dismissal of this case.
The prosecutors also presented Exhibit 13, which includes damning evidence of Comey's handwritten note on FBI director letterhead. This note provides proof of Comey's awareness of, and possible involvement in, the alleged Russian collusion criminal conspiracy against Trump.
James Comey, who has been described as one of the most dishonest and sanctimonious figures in The Swamp, is now facing the consequences of his actions. The unearthed emails could potentially be detrimental to his case. As the legal proceedings unfold, it remains to be seen how Comey will navigate the charges leveled against him.
