Conservative governor Ron DeSantis appeared at a leadership summit organized by the Heritage Foundation.
Approximately 1,000 conservative leaders and activists attended the summit. DeSantis did not make the presidential announcement many are waiting for, but he did have a critical warning regarding the 2024 elections.
DeSantis pointed out that the left is playing for keeps in the upcoming elections. According to Fox News, If you look at what happens in 2024 if the Democrats can sweep all the offices, President, Senate, and House what will they do with that power? They will try to pack the U.S. Supreme Court. They will try to abolish the Electoral College. They will try to make Washington, DC, a state to get two left-wing senators virtually for life. They will try to eliminate voter ID across this country and mandate ballot harvesting in every state of the union, DeSantis argued.
DeSantis further said that the Democrat agenda silences the conservative half of the country, ensuring that Republican voices are silenced.
The Florida governor has not announced whether he is running for President in the upcoming elections. However, many expect him to announce after the current Florida legislative session ends next month. So far, DeSantis has shown a few signs that he might make a run for the White House. Hes made stops in New Hampshire, North Carolina, and Iowa. These are the first three states to vote in the GOP primaries.
DeSantis saw his popularity soar during the pandemic when he pushed back hard against COVID restrictions, such as lockdowns. Now, hes been jetting around the country, making multiple stops to promote his new book and speak about Florida. He often boasts that Florida is the fastest-growing state and has legislative victories. The recently signed bill that will ban most abortions after six weeks in Florida has been added to the list. Many view this as a sign that hell run for President, including former President Donald Trump.
Trump continues to blast DeSantis despite the lack of an announcement from DeSantis. According to Trump, DeSantis focuses too much on publicity and not enough on the hard work necessary to make changes. When DeSantis wooed Republican lawmakers at the capitol, Trump quickly made his moves. According to Fox News, Trump, meanwhile, rained all over the DeSantis visit, rolling out a spate of congressional endorsements, including half a dozen from Florida, the state that the former President also calls home. Trump on Friday evening was scheduled to headline a Lee County, Florida, GOP dinner and discuss his plans to take on President Biden in next years general election.
As the primaries stay sizzling hot, well keep you updated on whos running and what moves theyre making.
