A Colorado woman dies after a rock was thrown through her windshield as part of a series of random attacks.
Alexa Bartell was the victim in this case and was just 20 years old. According to the sheriffs office, this appears to be the latest random attack in Jefferson County, Colorado.
These are not games. These are peoples lives, and what happened last night should never have happened, said Jefferson County Sheriffs Office (JCSO)) Public Information Officer Jacki Kelley. He continued by saying: We dont know who these suspects are, why theyre trying to do this, but they killed somebody last night, and we want to know who they are.
Fox News reports that between 12 AM and 10 PM on Thursday, a suspect or suspects threw rocks at five different cars. The suspect or suspects were driving a light-colored truck or SUV. The last vehicle they threw stones at was Bartells car, and she was killed near the 10600 block of Indiana Street around 10:45 PM.
Bartell had been talking to a friend on the phone while driving, but then she went silent. Fox News reports that her friend tracked Bartells location through her phone and found her vehicle with Bartell dead inside.
Her friend was worried, so her friend used an app to track her phone, drove to the location where it looked like Alexas phone was just sitting still, said Kelley. She discovered that Alexas car had gone off the road in Indiana into a field. And then she discovered her body inside.
Fox21 reports that authorities in the area say that the rock that went through Bartells windshield was a landscaping rock.
Bartells high school friend, Emily Audette, told Fox31 Denver that Bartell really left a mark on people.
It just doesnt feel real, said Audette. She was always just someone you could go to about anything, someone you could always talk to. She was just friends with everybody and made everybody laugh.
Colorado authorities are still looking for the suspects in this case. They have yet to identify them or their motives as of the time of this writing.
