A North Carolina high school volleyball player has been injured by a transgender player out on the court.
The New York Post reports that the player has pushed her state government to pass a ban on transgender players in female sports after being seriously injured.
Payton McNabb, a player for Hiwassee Dam High School in Murphy, North Carolina, spoke with her state representatives and said that she received a concussion from a spiked ball by a transgender player. Local news station WLOS reported that McNabb said: Due to the North Carolina High School Athletic Association policy allowing biological males to compete against biological females, my life has forever been changed.
McNabb says that she still deals with the after-effects of her injury, including symptoms such as blurred vision, horrible headaches, and even partial paralysis on the right side of her body. She says that these injuries have made it harder for her to retain and absorb information while at school. She says that it has had a material impact on her life and that she has suffered because of it.
She also feels that its a good reason to make the case that transgender athletes ought to be banned from competing in girls sports. While speaking with the state legislature, she said: I was unable to play the rest of my last volleyball season, and although Im currently playing softball, Im not able to perform as well as I know I have in the past because of the injury.
She followed this up by saying: Im not here for me because I know that my time playing is coming to an end, and Im here for every biological female athlete behind me. My little sister, my cousins, my teammates.
She then added the following color to her story: Allowing biological males to compete against biological females is dangerous. I may be the first to come before you with an injury, but if this doesnt pass, I wont be the last.
Also at the hearing was All-American Kentucky swimmer Riley Gaines, who is also pushing for the same kind of legislation banning trans athletes from competing in womens sports. Gaines tweeted: Watch the clip of Payton McNabb getting spiked in the face by a male competing with the women. And Then watch her testimony she gave today for the first time publicly. I was honored to stand alongside her in NC to continue the fight to protect womens sports.
Gaines previously competed against Lia Thomas, a transgender athlete who competed in womens swimming.
