In an unexpected turn of events, the father of the man accused of attempting to assassinate former President Donald Trump is grappling with the shocking news.
Matthew Crooks, father of the alleged gunman, 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, expressed his bewilderment, stating he was trying to figure out what the hell is going on. He made it clear to CNN that he would not divulge any information about his son until he had spoken with law enforcement.
According to The Post Millennial, the younger Crooks was fatally shot by a counter-sniper team after positioning himself on a rooftop approximately 130 yards from the stage at a Trump rally in Pennsylvania. The incident, which took place on Sunday, saw the young man fire shots that not only grazed the former President's right ear but also resulted in the death of a male spectator and left two others critically injured.
Thomas Matthew Crooks, a resident of Bethel Park, Pennsylvania, was a registered Republican who had reportedly made donations to a Democratic political action committee in 2021. The rally occurred about 45 miles from his home. Law enforcement officials, in their conversation with the Associated Press, suggested that the weapon used in the assassination attempt was likely purchased by his father at least half a year prior.
The FBI confirmed the identity of the shooter in a statement: "The FBI has identified Thomas Matthew Crooks, 20, of Bethel Park, Pennsylvania, as the subject involved in the assassination attempt of former President Donald Trump on July 13, in Butler, Pennsylvania.
