A tragic incident unfolded during the Fourth of July celebrations on Lake Conroe, north of Houston, when a woman drowned after falling overboard from a pontoon boat.
The woman's husband, Shane Everett Anniboli, 44, was subsequently arrested and charged with boating while intoxicated.
According to the Daily Mail, the incident occurred around 9pm, when the woman fell into the lake and failed to resurface. In a desperate attempt to rescue her, Anniboli, another woman, and Kyle Dean MacMeekin, who was operating a nearby boat, plunged into the water. However, the darkness and the vastness of the lake hindered their efforts, and they lost sight of the other woman who had also dived in to help.
The Montgomery County marine police were called to the scene, managing to pull MacMeekin, 29, and Anniboli from the water while they continued the search for the missing women. Using side-scan sonar, the police located the other woman safe on a dock, approximately three-quarters of a mile away, an hour later.
The body of the missing woman was eventually recovered by divers from the North Montgomery County Fire Department around 11pm. Following the incident, game wardens from the Texas Parks and Wildlife began interviewing witnesses, leading to the arrest of both Anniboli and MacMeekin.
Anniboli, a former owner of Funky Flamingo Shaved Ice in Magnolia, Texas, and currently a business development specialist at Dahill, along with MacMeekin, a former college football star at the University of Central Florida and current project manager at SRG Roofing, were both charged with boating while intoxicated. They are currently being held without bail at the Montgomery County Jail.
Justice of the Peace Wayne Mack has ordered an inquest and the woman's body has been sent for an autopsy. The name of the deceased woman has not yet been released. This tragic incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of boating while intoxicated, a crime that can lead to devastating consequences.
