In a recent development, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has issued a challenge to former US President Donald Trump, urging him to disclose his strategy for resolving the ongoing conflict with Russia.
"If Trump knows how to finish this war, he should tell us today," Zelensky stated during a Bloomberg Television interview. He further emphasized the urgency of the situation, saying, "If there are risks to Ukrainian independence, if we lose statehood we want to be ready for this, we want to know."
As reported by Bloomberg, Zelensky expressed his readiness to engage in a dialogue with Trump, stating that he was "potentially ready" to meet with the former US President to discuss his proposed solution. Trump has frequently asserted his capability to conclude the Russian-Ukrainian war within a day if he were in power. In response to these claims, Zelensky has extended multiple invitations to Trump to visit Ukraine, which is currently ravaged by war.
Trump's past remarks have included commendations for Russian President Vladimir Putin, whom he labeled a "genius" following Russia's invasion of Ukraine in 2022. In a recent presidential debate, Trump questioned the extent of US financial aid to Ukraine, arguing that the country is "not winning the war." He stated, "Im only saying, the money that were spending on this war, and we shouldnt be spending, it should have never happened. I will have that war settled between Putin and Zelensky as president-elect before I take office on January 20th. Ill have that war settled."
Zelensky, however, refuted the notion that the war is at a standstill, implying that Ukraine requires additional resources to effectively combat the conflict. "Its not a deadlock, its a problematic situation," he said. "A deadlock means theres no way out. But a problem can be solved if one has the will and has the tools. We do have the will, and the tools they havent arrived yet."
