In the span of a mere six days, President Joe Biden and his wife, Dr. Jill Biden, have found themselves in a whirlwind of controversy and criticism.
The series of unfortunate events began with a presidential debate performance on CNN that could arguably be described as one of the worst in U.S. history. Following Biden's disoriented and disjointed performance, his aides scrambled to shift the blame onto his debate preparation team.
In an attempt to douse the flames ignited by the disastrous debate, the White House hastily released a speech on Friday. However, this move only added fuel to the fire, with Biden's demeanor during the speech drawing unfavorable comparisons to a Halloween jack-o-lantern.
As reported by RedState, the situation took a further nosedive when Vogue magazine unveiled its July issue featuring a heavily airbrushed First Lady on the cover. The accompanying quote, "We will decide our own future," was interpreted by some as a reflection of the President's narcissistic tendencies, rather than a statement of empowerment.
The criticism didn't stop there. CNN host Jake Tapper, who co-hosted the debate, lambasted Team Biden and Democratic Party officials for their attempts to convince voters that Biden's performance was satisfactory. Coming from Tapper, who has been openly critical of former President Donald Trump, this critique signals a significant shift in the political landscape.
The final blow came in the form of a scathing article published by Politico. The piece, which was as brutal as its headline suggested, revealed that Biden's limitations had been apparent within the White House long before his debate debacle.
The article quoted a senior administration official saying, "Its like, You cant include that, that will set him off, or Put that in, he likes that. Its a Rorschach test, not a briefing. Because he is not a pleasant person to be around when hes being briefed. Its very difficult, and people are scared shitless of him. The official further stated that Biden tends to isolate himself, taking advice only from a select few top aides, which creates a perfect storm of control and isolation.
The debate was so disastrous for Biden that it shattered the illusion that his age was not a concern. Despite his advisors' attempts to downplay concerns about his age, the 81-year-old President's faltering and scattered responses to former President Donald Trump, 78, shattered the party's magical thinking on the subject.
The shock that followed the President's difficulties was largely due to the effective cocoon his top aides and the White House had kept him in for three and a half years, shielding him from cameras, questions, and intense public scrutiny.
While it may be premature to label Joe Biden a "dead man walking," the recent series of events suggest that the President and his team should brace themselves for further scrutiny and criticism. Regardless of the outcome, it is clear that the Biden administration is facing a significant challenge in maintaining its credibility and public image.
