In a recent operation, Israeli forces unearthed an entrance to a Hamas tunnel concealed within a child's bedroom in Rafah, as reported by Fox News.
The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) claim to have retrieved a considerable cache of weapons and explosives from the tunnel, marking the latest in a series of what Israel refers to as "precise, intelligence-based, targeted operations" within the city.
The IDF stated, "This week, the troops located a tunnel shaft inside a child's room, and a butcher's knife next to it. In addition, the troops identified six terrorists near a school in the area of the troops. The terrorists were eliminated by a UAV and tank fire." The IDF released images of their forces operating in the densely populated urban environment of Rafah, as well as the stockpile of weapons, explosives, and other equipment recovered during the operation.
On the same day, an Israeli strike targeted Hamas and Islamic Jihad terrorists who were reportedly hiding at a United Nations school for displaced Palestinians in central Gaza. Local officials reported that the strike resulted in over 30 fatalities, including 23 women and children. Israel defended its actions, stating that it was aiming at a Hamas compound within the school, housing between 20 to 30 fighters, many of whom were reportedly killed.
Eyewitnesses and hospital officials identified the targeted location as the al-Sardi School, managed by the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees (UNRWA). The school was reportedly filled with Palestinians seeking refuge from Israeli offensives and bombardment in northern Gaza.
The IDF posted on social media, "Eliminated: several Hamas and Islamic Jihad terrorists who embedded themselves inside of an @UNRWA (United Nations Agency for Palestine Refugees) school." The post continued, "IAF fighter jets conducted a precise strike on a Hamas compound embedded inside the school in the area of Nuseirat. These terrorists belonged to the Nukhba Forces and participated in the Oct. 7 massacre."
The IDF asserted that several measures were implemented prior to Thursday's strike to minimize the risk of civilian casualties, including aerial surveillance and additional intelligence gathering. The post was accompanied by an aerial photograph highlighting rooms on two upper floors of the building, which the IDF identified as the "locations of the terrorists."
