A law enforcement officer on duty in Mississippi was apprehended by her own department on Wednesday for purportedly stealing footwear, as reported by the New York Post.
Robin Conner, the 33-year-old officer involved, was subsequently dismissed from the police force due to the alleged incident, the publication highlighted.
Police Chief Joseph Daughtry disclosed that Conner supposedly took a pair of tennis shoes valued at $140 from Dicks Sporting Goods while in uniform and was officially charged with misdemeanor shoplifting, according to the Columbia Dispatch. Daughtry mentioned that an employee of the store reportedly witnessed Conner in the act, detained her, and promptly notified the authorities by dialing 911.
Daughtry stated, Myself, the assistant chief, and the patrol captain all responded to the situation. He added, Its a source of embarrassment for the department, but we will handle her case just as we would with any other individual.
Conner was immediately put on administrative leave pending an internal investigation by the department, as per WCBI.
Daughtry expressed, We have a duty to fulfill and are expected to uphold a higher standard. The community is gradually placing their trust in us, and this incident is a significant blow. That is why we fulfilled our responsibility, not only to the store but also to the community.
Conner was granted bail set at $862, WCBI detailed. The city council unanimously decided on Thursday to terminate Conners employment from the police department, as reported by WVTA. Conner had been serving on the police force since 2022, according to the Columbia Dispatch.
