Idan Amedi, a prominent Israeli actor known for his role in the Netflix series Fauda, has been gravely injured in the ongoing conflict with Hamas in the Gaza Strip, as per local reports.
Amedi, aged 35, sustained shrapnel injuries and was subsequently sedated and intubated at an Israeli medical facility, reported the Israeli news outlet Ynet.
The report confirmed that Amedi's condition, though serious, is stable. His father reassured the public via the Israeli news channel Wala, stating that his son's life was not in immediate peril.
According to Ynet, Amedi has been serving on reserve duty since the initiation of Hamas's assault on southern Israel on October 7. He was wounded this past Monday. A journalist from Israel's N12 news channel had an interaction with Amedi approximately an hour before his injury, while he was stationed within Gaza.
"I'm fine, a little tired," Amedi told the reporter. He expressed his disorientation at seeing the journalist amidst the conflict, stating, "It's strange to see you here in the midst of this thing, suddenly, you feel so clean to me, I don't know how to behave with it."
Amedi revealed that he and his fellow Israel Defense Forces (IDF) soldiers had successfully demolished Hamas tunnels, where they found numerous discarded weapons. "We are working hard here for everyone's safety, and we love you," he stated, just an hour before his unfortunate injury.
Fauda's official social media account confirmed the reports of Amedi's injury, stating, "Idan is one of the kindest, warmest, and most passionate people, loved by all of us. His love of music is a very special part of our set. We ask that everyone respect the privacy of him and his family at this time. Together let us pray for Idan's full and quick recovery."
In the series Fauda, Amedi portrayed Sagi Tzur, a novice undercover agent in the counter-terrorism unit, from the second to fourth seasons. He is also a renowned singer-songwriter in Israel. The series, which follows a team of undercover agents from Israel's domestic security agency Shin Bet in their operations against Palestinians, has received critical acclaim. However, some Palestinians argue that it trivializes their experiences under Israel's indefinite military occupation of the West Bank.
Israel has mobilized approximately 360,000 reserve soldiers from various backgrounds in its war against Hamas. Amedi is among them and frequently shared his experiences in the IDF on social media. In a video posted in November, he stated, "This is not a scene from Fauda, this is real life."
In another post, he wrote, "To my friends, brothers and sisters who are currently fighting on any front, there are no better people than you. There is no greater pride than you. I was privileged to stand by your side." He added that the events of October 7 were motivating him and his fellow soldiers to continue their fight against Hamas.
Before his role in Fauda, Amedi participated in an Israeli talent competition, performing several self-composed songs, many of which were about his military service. He has released several albums, and his songs on YouTube have garnered millions of views.
Amedi is married to Israeli social activist Miriam Binyaminov, with whom he has a daughter and a son. His global fanbase has flooded Amedi's Instagram account with well-wishes for a swift recovery and safe return home.
