A military investigation is underway right now into the mysterious death of a Marine.
The New York Post reports that Christopher Hutchings was found dead in his barracks on February 5th, according to KKTV in Colorado Springs. Hutchings is a native of Colorado.
A source spoke with that media outlet and said that the death is under investigation as a mysterious death.
Major Mason Englehart, the Director of Communication Strategy and Operations for the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing, spoke to that same media outlet and said:
I can confirm that PFC Christopher Hutchings was pronounced deceased in his barracks on Sunday, Feb. 5.
This young Marine joined the armed forces in 2022 and was assigned to Marine Corps Air Station Camp Pendleton. His death is now under investigation by the Armed Forces Medical Examiner, with assistance for the Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS). It is something that many people keep an eye on this case to see the ultimate resolution. There are a lot of questions about how a Marine could show up dead like this.
Major Mason Englehart stated, His death is still under investigation at this time and a cause of death has not been released. We take all loss of life very seriously and extend our deepest condolences to those affected.
The Post also contacted Camp Pendleton for comment, but they did not immediately respond to that request.
Hutchins body was transported back to Colorado, where it will be laid to rest in proper military fashion. His funeral is set for February 26th. His hometown already showed their love and support for this individual by lining both sides of the road in his small town with American flags and showing support for the fallen soldier. It has helped the town try to get their emotions together concerning all of this, but it remains a challenging situation, to be sure.
An official statement from the town read: We are asking citizens to line the routes waving either the US Flag or US Marine Corp Flags to assist in honoring this young Marine.
The Buena Vista Police Department shared a video of the casket of Hutchins being brought back into town to be properly laid to rest. It was a great tribute to someone who gave his life to this country.
