Laura Lynch, a founding member of the Dixie Chicks, now known as The Chicks, has tragically passed away in a head-on collision in Texas, according to officials.
The Texas Department of Public Safety spokesperson confirmed that Lynch was driving her car approximately 7 miles west of Cornudas on Friday morning when another vehicle attempting to pass collided with her car. TMZ initially reported the news of her death.
Regrettably, Lynch was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the other vehicle involved in the collision was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Lynch, who was 65 years old, played a significant role in the early success of The Chicks. The group took to Facebook to express their shock and sadness over her passing. In a heartfelt statement, they remembered Lynch as a bright light, praising her infectious energy, humor, and undeniable talents. They credited her with contributing to the band's early days, from playing music and laughing together to her gift for design and love for all things Texas.
During her time with the Dixie Chicks, Lynch co-wrote notable songs such as "Thank Heavens for Dale Evans," "Little Ol Cowgirl," and "Shouldnt a Told You That," as reported by The Hollywood Reporter. Lynch left the group in 1993, but her impact on their journey was undeniable.
