Spies In The Skies: Taiwan Reports This Suspicious Activity, Amid China Tensions (Video)

Taiwan officials say that dozens of Chinese aircraft violated airspace as tensions between China and the United States remain high.

Fox News reports that this comes about as several Chinese spy balloons have repeatedly been shot down over U.S. airspace in recent days.

Taiwan's Ministry of National Defense also stated that China has been sending spy balloons into its airspace about once per month in the last few months. Taiwan News reports that officials in the country believe that the balloons are being used to measure atmospheric data in Taiwan to assist China with better aiming its missiles at the country.

Both the United States and China conducted military exercises in the Indo-Pacific region this weekend in a show of force by both countries. The U.S. Navy and Marine Corps conducted joint drills in the area, and now China has surrounded Taiwan with its military in a similar build-up to earlier this year.

The United States House of Representatives voted to condemn China for its use of military spy balloons over the United States, but officials within China have brushed off that condemnation.

Spokeswoman Mao Ning said, "The U.S. Congress's resolution is purely about scoring political points and dramatizing the whole thing," and "China deplores it and firmly opposes it."

The Defense Ministry in Taiwan said that 18 People's Liberation Army aircraft were in the water between China and Taiwan. They said that 11 of those 18 aircraft crossed the median line between the two countries and therefore violated some of the terms that both countries have previously agreed to related to the way that they will conduct themselves in all matters related to how they use their militaries.

Tensions are high in the area, and it is only getting worse with provocative actions like this taken by the Chinese. It will certainly be worth keeping an eye on as there is a lot of geopolitical tension throughout the globe.
