Alabama's Governor Takes BOLD Action To Tackle Migrant Crisis

In a recent development, Alabama's Republican Governor, Kay Ivey, has declared the deployment of 275 National Guard troops to the United States-Mexico border.

This move is aimed at mitigating the ongoing migrant crisis. In her statement, Ivey asserted, Every state has become a border state under the current policies, and Alabama remains committed to being an integral part of the mission to protect our southern border.

She further expressed her gratitude to the 275 troops and their families for their invaluable service to the nation, stating, The Alabama National Guard always stands ready to protect our citizens."

In a previous move in September, Governor Ivey, along with 24 other governors led by Montana's Republican Governor Greg Gianforte, signed a letter addressed to President Biden. The letter demanded a revision of the administration's open-border policies. The letter read, The crisis at the southern border extends to every state. As a result of your policies which incentivize illegal immigration, our states are carrying the burden of both the years-long surge in illegal border crossings and cartels coordinated trafficking of drugs and human beings.

The governors' letter emphasized the frontline role of the states in the migrant crisis. It also highlighted the states' round-the-clock efforts to provide migrants with shelter, food, and other aid. The governors urged the Biden administration to provide detailed information about the relocation of migrants admitted at the southern border within the United States. They also requested comprehensive data on asylum claim timelines, qualification rates, and successful deportations.

The letter held the administration responsible for the 5.8 million illegal crossings and the subsequent strain on states' public resources. In the previous month alone, over 200,000 migrants illegally crossed into the United States. At least 13 governors have agreed to send law enforcement officers to the border to help manage the increase in illegal crossings.

In May, Florida's Republican Governor Ron DeSantis deployed 800 National Guardsmen to the United States-Mexico border. California's Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom also increased the number of troops at the states southern border.

Governor Ivey had previously sent troops to the southern border in 2018 to assist the Texas National Guard and Border Patrol, as reported by Fox News Digital.

The recent deployment of troops by Governor Ivey has been lauded by Alabama's Republican senators, Tommy Tuberville and Katie Britt.

Tuberville expressed his approval on X, formerly Twitter, stating, Alabama is stepping up and doing @JoeBidens job for him. Britt echoed this sentiment, stating, When our nation is in crisis, Alabamians will always answer the call of duty. Thanks for your continued leadership, @GovernorKayIvey.
