Martina Navratilova Speaks Out About Australia Opening The Door For Men In Women's Sports

Gymnastics Australia has made a controversial decision to allow men to compete against women and even use women's locker rooms, a move that has drawn criticism from tennis legend Martina Navratilova.

In a post on her X account, Navratilova expressed her concerns about the policy, stating that it will ultimately exclude females from the sports created specifically for them.

Navratilova wrote, "To say this won't end well is an understatement. To say Gymnastics Australia just threw females and girls under the bus is an understatement. What is wrong with you guys??? This 'inclusion' actually will EXCLUDE biological women and most of all girls. #whataboutthegirls???"

The original post that sparked Navratilova's response was made by Oli London, a detransitioner known for their outspoken views. London highlighted the implications of the new rule, stating that under the new rules, biological males will be allowed to compete in the category that aligns with their gender identity and wear women's uniforms. They will also have access to women's locker rooms and showers, regardless of their genitalia.

London further pointed out that a significant majority of those involved in gymnastics in Australia are under the age of 12, with 93% falling into this category. This raises concerns about the potential impact on young female athletes.

The decision made by Gymnastics Australia is in contrast to the stance taken by World Aquatics and World Athletics, two international sports governing bodies in swimming and track and field. These organizations have implemented measures to prevent men from competing in women's sports.
