Colorado's Rep. Boebert Offers BOLD Deal To Get Her Choice For House Speaker Appointed

In a recent development, Colorado's GOP Representative Lauren Boebert has publicly expressed her willingness to abandon the motion to vacate, provided that Ohio's Republican Representative Jim Jordan is appointed as the Speaker of the House.

Boebert took to Twitter to announce her stance, stating, "Im willing to ditch the Motion To Vacate with @Jim_Jordan as Speaker."

Boebert further explained her position in a subsequent post, highlighting that a segment of the conference refuses to vote for any Speaker until the rule is eliminated. She emphasized the rule's purpose as a mechanism to ensure the Speaker's accountability. However, she expressed her readiness to discard the rule if a trustworthy Speaker, such as Jim Jordan, is appointed.

This announcement comes amidst the ongoing speakership bids by Jordan and House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-La.), following the recent removal of Rep. Kevin McCarthy from the position. The proposal for McCarthy's ouster was initiated by Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fl.), who, along with seven other GOP lawmakers, joined forces with Democrats to vote in favor of McCarthy's removal.

Meanwhile, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) has expressed his hope that the next House Speaker will abolish the motion to vacate, arguing that it renders the Speaker's job unmanageable. However, his statement was met with opposition from Republican Senator Mike Lee of Utah, who argued against relinquishing the motion-to-vacate rule.

In an interesting twist, former President Donald Trump has indicated his willingness to temporarily assume the role of House Speaker, should the Republicans fail to reach a consensus on a suitable candidate. In a statement to Fox News Digital, Trump said, "I will do it if necessary, should they not be able to make their decision."
