Stealing The Magic: Ron DeSantis Proposes New Bill To Strip Disney's Power Over The Magic Kingdom

For years, Disney has been the envy of every private business owner.

They can lease land and decide what to build and where to make it without a care in the world. The Disney government can develop its nuclear power plant if it would like. However, Ron DeSantis is about to put a stop to all of that glorious freedom.

According to Fortune.com, Those days are numbered as a new bill released this week puts the entertainment giants District firmly in the control of Floridas governor and legislative leaders in what some see as punishment for Disneys opposition to the so-called Dont Say Gay law championed by Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis and the Republican-controlled Legislature.

This leaves quite a few unanswered questions for Disney. Currently, the Disney government oversees the entity Walt Disney World as well. With a new government, its hard to tell if the two will remain in perfect sync.

The bill states that anyone that has worked for a theme park or entertainment complex in the previous three years or has had family that has wont be able to serve on the new board of directors. While many think this is a great way to establish a newly run Disney, it also eliminates the people with the most experience running the theme park.

Instead, the government will appoint a new board of directors. On top of that, the District will become the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District instead of Disney. The state will have the power to oversee the District, limiting the ability the District has. For example, the District will be prohibited from creating or adopting codes against state regulations, and the District wont be allowed to own and operate buildings like a power plant, airports, or stadiums anymore.

Republicans have long criticized the unfair advantage that Disney has had for years. Democrats say its nothing more than a power trip from DeSantis. However, first responders that work at Disney are behind the new legislation. They say that Disney cares about money and new infrastructure, not their employees.
