Video footage from Arizona shows a man spouting racist insults at Native Americans while telling them they were in "MAGA Country" outside of an art gallery.
This week, Fox 10 Phoenix reported on a video that was shared on Instagram. The video depicted a man outside the Gilbert Ortega Authentic Indian Art Galleries in Scottsdale, Arizona, where a group of Native American performers had gathered to shoot a video for ESPN's Super Bowl coverage. The man was seen performing an imitation of traditional Native American chants.
Upon learning that he was being filmed by cameras, the man continued to be defiant and repeated the phrase "MAGA Country" multiple times.
The man became more hostile when one of the individuals recording him challenged him to "come out into the street" and talk to them. In response, he angrily swore at the man, calling him a "f*cking Indian."
Fox 10 Phoenix revealed that the associations of the man to Gilbert Ortega Galleries are unknown. They also discovered that the Facebook and Instagram accounts of the business are no longer visible.
In response to the incident, Kelly Corsette, a representative from Scottsdale's city government, issued a statement to Fox 10 Phoenix condemning the incident.
"Scottsdale prides itself as a welcoming community for all people," Corsette said. "We are sad that this incident occurred and offer our full support to those who were targeted. The city condemns this individual's racist comments - they do not represent our community."
