What Is Up His Sleeve? DeSantis Touts New $12M Plan For Migrants

There is a new plan on the table from Governor Ron DeSantis' office related to the transportation of migrants out of the Sunshine State.

Wesh.com reports that House Bill 5B would create an Unauthorized Alien Transport Program within the Division of Emergency Management under the Governor's Executive Office.

This idea comes as there have been many migrant transportation situations outside of both Texas and Florida in recent years. There have been some high-profile situations in which migrants were shipped up from Florida and Texas to areas such as Martha's Vineyard, where this is not typically as much of an issue.

This is to say that many migrants were moved to Martha's Vineyard and other areas that are not as accustomed to seeing the migrant crisis right in their faces.

David Metellus, with the Florida Immigrant Coalition, said the following about what he sees as the negative economic impact that such a piece of legislation might have on Florida:

"What we have to understand is most migrants who come here are escaping socialist, brutal, or murderous dictatorships, and they're mostly Cubans, Venezuelans, Nicaraguans, Haitians, and so these people are seeking refuge when they come to this country," and "When we talk about Florida and the economic impact that immigrant communities have in Florida, there's $8.1 billion in business income from immigrants 437,000 small business owners are immigrants in Florida, so that means one in every three self-employed business owners in Florida is an immigrant."

However, others do not see it this way. Many points to the economic and social strain that has occurred due to mass migration into the United States. No one wants to deal with the problem head-on, making it highly challenging for many in Florida. It is starting to become a completely unsustainable situation for the future.

This new legislation would provide funding to transport migrants out of Florida and into other states. DeSantis believes that it is long past when some countries begin to feel the strain that Florida has had to undergo due to the migrant crisis. It is a matter of making people understand the challenges of a problem that even the federal government doesn't have a great answer for. Now, DeSantis at least has a plan for Florida.
