A man from Savage, Minnesota, has been charged with second-degree intentional murder and attempted murder after allegedly stabbing his uncle to death and attacking his aunt, who remains hospitalized.
Adam Garret Roring, 44, is accused of killing his uncle, Mark Novak, 74, a former mayor, and severely injuring his aunt, Pamela Novak, 72. The incident occurred in the early hours of August 24th, when Roring entered the Novaks' home and carried out the attacks.
According to reports, Bloomington Police responded to a 911 call made by Pamela Novak shortly before 5 a.m. When officers arrived at the scene, they found her lying on the floor. As they attempted to enter the house, they heard noises coming from the basement and allegedly witnessed Roring climbing out of a window in an attempt to flee.
Roring was subsequently arrested with what appeared to be blood on his jacket, pants, and gloves. He was found to be carrying a metal bar and a blood-covered nunchaku. A search of the home revealed metal links believed to be from the nunchaku, as well as a large chef knife in the kitchen sink covered in blood.
Mark Novak was transported to Hennepin County Medical Center but was pronounced dead upon arrival. He had suffered a severe laceration to his throat, as well as injuries to his head, face, and defensive wounds on his hands. Pamela Novak, who managed to escape the bedroom and call 911, was also taken to the hospital. She remains in critical condition, having sustained broken bones and lacerations on her hands and face.
Pamela Novak identified Roring as the attacker, stating that she and her husband were awoken by a male who repeatedly beat them with an unknown object. Roring, however, claimed that he had gone to his aunt and uncle's house before dawn to return house keys belonging to them.
He alleged that upon arrival, he encountered an unknown intruder armed with nunchucks and a chain. Roring stated that he struggled with the intruder, managed to obtain the weapons, and then fled through the basement window after checking on his aunt. Police found Roring's vehicle parked next to the Novaks' home.
Investigators have determined that the blood found throughout the home is consistent with Pamela Novak's account of the events. Bloomington Police Chief Booker Hodges expressed his gratitude for the swift apprehension of the suspect, praising the work of the dispatchers and police officers involved.
In the wake of this horrific incident, family members have set up a GoFundMe page to support Pamela Novak's recovery and to help cover funeral expenses for Mark.
The page, titled "Help the Novak Family - Remember, Recover, Rebuild," emphasizes the couple's kindness and the impact they had on those around them. Organizers are urging friends and supporters to contribute and reflect the warmth and kindness that the Novaks extended to others.
Adam Garret Roring is currently being held in Hennepin County Jail as the investigation continues.
