Nikki Haley, the former United States Ambassador to the United Nations, has criticized the Senate, likening it to a "privileged nursing home."
This comment came in the wake of a health scare involving Senator Mitch McConnell, a Republican from Kentucky.
During a press conference in Covington, Kentucky, McConnell, who serves as the Senate Minority Leader, appeared to freeze when questioned about his plans for re-election in 2026. This incident echoes a similar occurrence in July at a weekly press conference in the Capitol.
Haley expressed her concern on "The Story," stating, "No one should feel good about seeing that any more than we should feel good about seeing Dianne Feinstein, any more than we should feel good about a lot of whats happening or seeing Joe Bidens decline."
She further added, "What I will say is, right now the Senate is the most privileged nursing home in the country. I mean, Mitch McConnell has done some great things and he deserves credit. But you have to know when to leave.
Earlier this year, Feinstein, who had been hospitalized with shingles in March, announced her retirement in February. Her health issues and subsequent absence have led to numerous calls for her resignation, including from Democratic Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York.
However, Feinstein is not the only Senator who has been absent this year. Democratic Senator John Fetterman of Pennsylvania was hospitalized for depression, and McConnell also missed time after suffering a concussion and a rib injury from a fall at an event.
Haley suggested the implementation of mental competency tests for anyone over the age of 75. She stated, I wouldnt care if they did them over the age of 50, but these people are making decisions on our national security. Theyre making decisions on our economy, on the border. We need to know theyre at the top of their game. You cant say that right now looking at Congress.
