A violent incident has taken place at the Fulton County Jail, where former President Donald Trump and his co-defendants were recently booked.
According to the Daily Mail, the Fulton County Sheriff's Office has confirmed that at least two individuals were injured and one person was killed in the jail. The exact number of injuries and the number of assailants involved remain unclear at this time.
These stabbings come on the heels of another tragic incident at the jail, where an inmate lost his life after filing a civil rights complaint alleging excessive force. This marks the fourth death within the jail in the past month. Concerns about the jail's conditions and violence against inmates prompted a Department of Justice (DOJ) investigation in July.
In September 2022, LaShawn Thompson, a mentally ill inmate, reportedly died in a filthy jail cell, with his family claiming that he was infested with bed bugs. The jail has faced allegations of malpractice for years, and since the beginning of this year, eight inmates have lost their lives within its walls.
The DOJ initiated its investigation into the facility based on "credible allegations that an incarcerated person died covered in insects and filth, that the Fulton County Jail is structurally unsafe, that prevalent violence has resulted in serious injuries and homicides, and that officers are being prosecuted for using excessive force."
President Trump, in an email newsletter following his arrest, criticized the conditions of the jail, describing them as "poor and disgraceful." He expressed that witnessing the state of the jail further motivated him to run for President, aiming to save the country from what he perceives as an irreversible decline.
