Pilots were forced to eject from an MiG-23 aircraft just moments before it crashed during the Thunder Over Michigan show on Sunday, according to video footage.
The crash occurred near an apartment complex close to Belleville Road off I-94 at approximately 4:30 p.m., as confirmed by authorities speaking to FOX 2 Detroit.
Thankfully, all pilots were successfully recovered in good condition from a nearby lake. Miraculously, there were no casualties reported at the scene of the crash. The video footage captured the dramatic moment when at least three pilots parachuted out of the jet fighter, which had begun to emit smoke. The aircraft itself was seen briefly engulfed in flames.
Following the incident, Thunder Over Michigan promptly announced the cancellation of their air show on Facebook. The two-day event, which marked the 25th Thunder Over Michigan show, came to an abrupt halt. The event's Facebook page issued a statement, urging attendees to exit the airfield calmly and return to their vehicles.
Authorities are currently conducting an active investigation into the incident. At this time, no further details, including the cause of the crash, have been disclosed.
