Republican Representative Greg Steube of Florida has taken the lead among his GOP colleagues by introducing articles of impeachment against President Joe Biden.
While various congressional committees are already building a case to remove Biden from office, Steube believes it is high time to take action. He has filed articles of impeachment against Biden, accusing the president of being complicit in his son Hunter's alleged crimes and working to protect him from facing justice.
In a statement, Steube said, "Its long past time to impeach Joe Biden. He has undermined the integrity of his office, brought disrepute to the Presidency, betrayed the trust of the American people, and acted in a manner that undermines the rule of law and justice."
Steube has filed four articles of impeachment against Biden. The first article alleges that the president abused the power of his office by accepting bribes, committing Hobbs Act extortion, and engaging in honest services fraud. These charges stem from Biden's alleged involvement in his family's business dealings, including allegations that Hunter and James Biden, the president's brother, sought to sell access to then-Vice President Biden between 2009 and 2017 in exchange for financial gain from foreign and domestic business partners.
House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer, a Republican from Kentucky, released a memo claiming that foreign payments to the Biden family amounted to over $20 million. However, Democrats argue that none of the evidence presented proves that President Biden accepted any payments or engaged in misconduct.
The second article of impeachment accuses President Biden of obstructing justice, citing testimony from an IRS whistleblower. The testimony alleges that members of the Biden campaign colluded with officials from the Department of Justice to interfere with investigations into tax crimes allegedly committed by Hunter Biden. Both the Justice Department and special counsel David Weiss, who was appointed to investigate Hunter Biden, have denied any interference by the Biden administration.
The third and fourth articles of impeachment charge Biden with "fraud" and allege that he paid for Hunter Biden's illegal drugs and encounters with prostitutes, respectively.
Steube emphasized, "The evidence continues to mount by the day the Biden Crime Family has personally profited off Joes government positions through bribery, threats, and fraud. Joe Biden must not be allowed to continue to sit in the White House, selling out our country."
On the same day, Steube introduced legislation that would require the Chief of the Secret Service to submit a report on the illicit use of controlled substances in the White House. This move comes after the Secret Service closed its investigation into cocaine found at the White House last month without identifying a suspect. Steube named the bill the "Helping Understand Narcotics Traces at the Executive Residence (HUNTER) Act."
Steube stated, "The United States Secret Service (USSS) refers to themselves as one of the most elite law enforcement agencies in the world. Its completely unacceptable that the USSS has failed to find who is responsible for bringing cocaine into one of the most secure buildings in the world. The American people deserve answers. My legislation demands information on the closed investigation into the cocaine found at the White House in July and focuses on how Congress can provide oversight to prevent future illicit usage of controlled substances in the White House."
Steube's articles of impeachment have taken precedence over at least four GOP-led committee investigations that are also pursuing avenues to impeach Biden or his top officials.
The White House has dismissed these suggestions, with press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre stating, "Were not going to get into what House Republicans want to do or may not do hypotheticals. Thats on them. Thats for them to speak to. What I can speak to is exactly what were doing today."
Jean-Pierre added, "The economic data is so much better than economists had expected. And so, thats because of the work that this President has done. Thats going to be our focus. Our focus is going to be on what we can do to make Americans lives a little bit better, giving them that extra breathing room."
