A disturbing development has emerged in the case of a woman who was sought as a witness in a horrifying kidnapping and rape case.
The woman's lifeless body was discovered inside a barrel that had been set adrift in the Mississippi River. The details of this tragic incident were revealed during a hearing for Timothy Haslett Jr., the suspect in the aforementioned case, where prosecutors requested an increase in his bond.
Haslett, a 39-year-old resident of Excelsior Springs, Missouri, was apprehended in October after a woman reported to her neighbors that she had been kidnapped and held against her will in his basement. The victim, a frail 22-year-old, bore visible ligature marks on her body and was found wearing a metal collar and duct tape around her neck.
She recounted being held captive for several weeks, enduring repeated acts of rape while being restrained with handcuffs on her wrists and ankles. Her escape came when her captor left to take his child to school.
Haslett was subsequently arrested and charged with first-degree rape, first-degree kidnapping, and second-degree assault. Authorities suspect that there may be additional victims involved in this case.
In June, kayakers on the Mississippi River made a chilling discovery when they stumbled upon a barrel containing human remains. The deceased individual was later identified as 36-year-old Jaynie Crosdale, who had been sought as a potential witness in the Haslett case. Crosdale's family, speaking to WDAF-TV, expressed their belief that she may have fallen victim to Haslett's alleged crimes.
The Clay County Prosecutor's Office released a statement affirming their commitment to building a strong case and seeking justice for Jaynie Crosdale. However, the recent discovery of her lifeless body has prompted prosecutors to request an increase in Haslett's bond, citing the need to ensure public safety. Regrettably, this request was denied.
If convicted of the charges against him, Haslett could face up to five life sentences. The investigation into this harrowing case continues, as authorities work tirelessly to uncover the truth and bring justice to the victims involved.
