In a bombshell report released on Monday, the House Oversight Committee unveiled evidence supporting the IRS whistleblower's claims that the Department of Justice (DOJ) worked to cover up Hunter Biden's tax crimes.
The report includes testimony from a former FBI supervisory special agent who confirmed key portions of the whistleblower's account.
According to the report, the night before Hunter Biden's interview, both Secret Service headquarters and the Biden transition team were alerted about the planned interview. On the day of the interview, federal agents were instructed to stand by and were not allowed to approach Hunter Biden. They had to wait for him to make contact. As a result, IRS and FBI criminal investigators were unable to interview Hunter Biden as part of the investigation.
Republican Sen. James Comer, chairman of the House Oversight and Accountability Committee, expressed his condemnation of the Biden Justice Department's actions and pledged to pursue all available avenues to ensure accountability. He stated, "The Justice Department's efforts to cover up for the Bidens reveals a two-tiered system of justice that sickens the American people."
The committee also conducted an interview with a former FBI supervisory special agent who corroborated the IRS whistleblower's claims of DOJ interference in the federal investigation into Hunter Biden's taxes. The interview revealed that the FBI had notified Secret Service headquarters about the planned interview, which hindered the investigation.
The committee's report highlighted that the FBI supervisory special agent and IRS Supervisory Special Agent Gary Shapley had planned multiple witness interviews for December 8, 2020, as part of the criminal investigation into Hunter Biden. However, on the evening of December 7, they learned that FBI headquarters had informed Secret Service headquarters and the Biden transition team about the interview. This deviation from the original plan frustrated the agents' investigative efforts.
On December 8, Shapley and the FBI supervisory special agent were informed that they could not approach Hunter Biden's house. Instead, they were instructed to wait near his residence until he contacted them. The former FBI supervisory special agent expressed his surprise at this directive, stating that he had never been told to wait outside to be contacted by a subject of an investigation. Consequently, neither Shapley nor the former FBI agent had the opportunity to interview Hunter Biden.
IRS whistleblower Gary Shapley, in his testimony before Congress, emphasized that he came forward to expose the preferential treatment and unchecked conflicts of interest in the investigation of Hunter Biden. He alleged that the DOJ provided slow-walked the investigation and failed to address obvious conflicts of interest.
In addition to the tax crimes for which Hunter Biden recently received what many consider a lenient plea deal, both Hunter and his father, President Joe Biden, are currently facing separate investigations into their alleged questionable foreign business dealings with Ukraine and China.
The House Oversight Committee, along with the Judiciary Committee and Ways and Means Committee, is committed to seeking answers, transparency, and accountability on behalf of the American people. The revelations in this report underscore the need for a thorough investigation into the actions of the DOJ and the Biden administration. The American people deserve a justice system that operates without favoritism or cover-ups.
