WATCH: 'Succession' Star Speaks His Mind On Woke Culture And Does NOT Hold Back

Hollywood actor Brian Cox, known for his role in HBO's Succession, has criticized woke culture, describing it as "awful," and has also expressed his disapproval of what he calls the "shaming culture" perpetuated by millennials.

Cox, who portrays media mogul Logan Roy in the popular HBO series, made these remarks during an appearance on Piers Morgan Uncensored on Fox Nation.

During the interview, Cox specifically targeted millennials as the "arbiters of this shaming," attributing much of the cancel culture phenomenon to their influence. He also pointed out that social media exacerbates the problem, stating, "I don't think social media helps, I think it hinders rather than helps."

The discussion on woke culture and shaming culture gained significant attention, with host Piers Morgan joining Cox in criticizing these trends. Morgan expressed his strong opposition to the incessant need to shame and bury individuals, to which Cox responded by calling the entire woke culture "truly awful."

Cox's comments received praise on social media, despite his history of left-leaning political views. Meghan McCain, for instance, expressed her admiration for the actor, tweeting, "Like I couldn't love Brian Cox more! Excellent interview." Conservative commentator Danny De Urbina also commended Cox, stating, "Another reason why Succession is the greatest show released in recent television."

Even Fox News' The Five co-host Dana Perino found Cox's remarks "refreshing," despite the actor's previous criticism of the network in 2021. Co-host Greg Gutfeld read out Cox's comment, "I don't even go there, because that's, like, the devil," on air, to which Gutfeld responded by taking it "as a compliment."

Cox's interview with Piers Morgan surprised many, given his liberal political views. In a CNBC interview in 2021, Cox described himself as "fairly left-wing" and professed his love for CNN. Furthermore, his comments on woke culture contrast with his support for Scotland's SNP governing political party, which has been accused of promoting extreme wokeism.

The SNP, which has held power in the Scottish government since 2007, faced backlash in December of last year for passing the Gender Recognition Reform Bill. This bill allows individuals to self-identify, legally change their gender, and grants men access to women's spaces from the age of 16. Despite the controversy surrounding the bill, Cox expressed his pride in Scotland for passing the legislation during a BBC interview, stating, "I'm very, very proud of Scotland for doing the gender identification Act because I think that's long needed, and it's a debate that has to happen."

The bill faced further criticism when it was revealed that over a dozen trans-identified male sex offenders were being housed in women's prisons, including double rapist Isla Bryson, who transitioned after committing their crimes.
