Megan Rapinoe, a prominent member of the U.S. women's soccer team, has accused comedian Dave Chappelle of contributing to violence against transgender individuals through his jokes on the subject.
In an interview with Time magazine, Rapinoe expressed her unwavering support for the transgender agenda and emphasized the harmful impact of Chappelle's humor.
Rapinoe stated, "I don't want to mince words about it. Dave Chappelle making jokes about trans people directly leads to violence, whether it's verbal or otherwise, against trans people." She argued that Chappelle's jokes perpetuate a negative perception of transgender individuals, influencing how they are treated in various aspects of life beyond the realm of elite sports.
Furthermore, Rapinoe criticized efforts to impose restrictions on transgender athletes participating in certain sports. She expressed frustration at the weaponization of women's sports, stating, "It's particularly frustrating when women's sports is weaponized. Oh, now we care about fairness? Now we care about women's sports? That's total bulls***." Rapinoe challenged the notion that transgender individuals exploit their identity for an unfair advantage in sports, asserting that such instances are rare or nonexistent.
Chappelle has faced backlash from some members of the transgender community due to jokes he has made in his comedy specials. In response, he has maintained that he harbors no ill will towards transgender individuals and has many transgender friends.
During the interview, Rapinoe also expressed her openness to transgender women joining the U.S. women's soccer team, regardless of whether it means displacing a biological woman from the team. She criticized the argument that transgender women are taking the place of "real" women, deeming it transphobic. Rapinoe firmly stated, "I see trans women as real women. What you're saying automatically in the argument you're sort of telling on yourself already is you don't believe these people are women. Therefore, they're taking the other spot. I don't feel that way."
In addition to discussing her stance on transgender issues, Rapinoe revealed her plans to retire after the 2023 soccer season. This announcement marks a significant milestone in her career as a professional soccer player.
Rapinoe's comments shed light on the ongoing debate surrounding transgender rights and inclusion in sports. Her strong support for the transgender agenda and criticism of Chappelle's jokes highlight the importance of fostering an inclusive and respectful environment for all individuals, regardless of their gender identity.
