Kansas Senator-elect Adam Hamilton is urging his own party to resist the temptation to spend the next two years waging investigative warfare against President Donald Trump instead of addressing the economic anxieties of working Americans.
Appearing on NBCs Meet the Press after his upset victory in the traditionally conservative state, Hamilton made clear that he did not run for office to fuel partisan vendettas, as reported by Gateway Pundit. He said he would be deeply disappointed if his early tenure in the Senate devolved into a nonstop campaign of inquiries into the Trump administration rather than a serious effort to improve daily life for families struggling to make ends meet.
Hamilton stressed that the real crisis is not political theater in Washington but the financial pressure on ordinary citizens. The bigger priority for me, and I think for most people in America, especially people living paycheck to paycheck, is please help us with the cost of living, Hamilton said.
The Senator-elect argued that a Democrat-controlled Congress should channel its energy into substantive policy, including ending the war with Iran and rolling back President Trumps tariff policies, rather than obsessing over investigations. If I spent the next two years, my first two years in the Senate, in investigations, Id be deeply disappointed, he continued.
I want to get to work helping the people in my state and helping the people across the country, Hamilton added, underscoring a message that stands in stark contrast to the hardline posture of his partys leadership. His comments land just as Democrats prepare to assume control of both chambers of Congress after sweeping midterm gains, a moment many on the left view as a mandate to escalate their legal and political offensive against the White House.
Several prominent Democrats have already signaled that investigations and lawfare will be their opening move, rather than economic relief or national security priorities. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer declared Wednesday that Democrats would launch investigations and pursue legal action at the earliest possible opportunity, while the top Democrat on the House Oversight Committee, Robert Garcia, has bluntly told the administration to lawyer up.
Hamilton cautioned that this approach could squander the very gains Democrats are celebrating if they ignore the kitchen-table concerns of voters who want solutions, not show trials. Lets focus on helping the American people, he said. And Ill tell you, the Democrats, if they dont, if we dont figure that out and get to work on helping people, this is going to be a one and done, kind of, you know, kind of blue wave.
