Democrats won at least three of the four Florida congressional seats that Gov. Ron DeSantis redrew to favor Republicans, and led narrowly in the fourth, according to the Daily Caller.
DeSantis unveiled a map in April that reshaped the 9th, 14th, 22nd and 25th districts to give Republicans a clear edge. President Donald Trump carried all four under the new lines in 2024, winning the 14th and 22nd by 11 points each, the 25th by nine and the 9th by 18.
Democratic Rep. Jared Moskowitz beat former Boca Raton Mayor Scott Singer by four points, and Rep. Kathy Castor defeated Republican Mike Beltran by five, according to the Associated Press. Democrat Pia Dandiya won an open seat over Republican Casey Askar, 52% to 48%.
The fourth seat is not settled. Democratic Rep. Darren Soto leads Republican Dan Green in the 9th District by about 1,477 votes, or roughly half a percentage point, with the AP calling the race too close to call.
A margin that narrow is expected to trigger an automatic machine recount under Florida law, Florida Politics reported. Soto declared victory, saying, "These districts aren't decided in Tallahassee."
The Congressional Leadership Fund, the top House GOP super PAC, cut $6 million in planned ads against Moskowitz and redirected $9 million to defend Republican-held seats. A super PAC backed by MAGA Inc. spent $6.3 million in the 25th District to help Singer.
Republicans still won Florida's two statewide races. Sen. Ashley Moody defeated Democrat Angie Nixon, 50.9% to 47.9%, and Rep. Byron Donalds won the governor's race, 50% to 48%.
