Apples flagship news app overwhelmingly pushed negative coverage of Republican priorities while shutting out any positive framing of GOP-aligned issues in the run-up to the midterm elections, according to a new analysis by the Media Research Center (MRC).
According to Fox News, the conservative watchdog examined the top 20 Apple News stories each day from Sept. 15-30 and concluded that users were routinely served a steady stream of content hostile to the Republican agenda. Over that two-week period, voters who depended on the preinstalled iPhone app for political information were exposed to roughly five stories per day that cast the GOPs top 10 policy concerns in a negative light.
During the same window, the study found that Apple News did not elevate a single story that portrayed any Republican-aligned issue in a favorable way. The platform, which enjoys a built-in advantage by shipping on every iPhone in the United States, effectively operated as a one-way filter against conservative priorities.
"Apple News ran 84 negative headlines on Republican priorities and zero positive ones. Zero! My dentist finds more good news in a root canal," MRCs David Bozell told Fox News Digital. "Millions of voters open that app before they vote, and Apple's editors are in there like a bartender who waters down only one party's drinks," Bozell continued. "Come on, Apple, tell us who picks these stories and why Republicans got the whole bad-news buffet."
MRC researchers Luis Cornelio and Madison Van Zant, who led the study, argued that the pattern is not an accident but part of a broader ideological project. They wrote that their findings add to the "growing body of evidence that the platforms editors continue to curate its feeds to push a left-wing political agenda."
The watchdog determined that Apple News promoted 117 stories touching on GOP-aligned issues during the review period, with 84 headlines (72%) casting those issues negatively and the remaining 33 (28%) framed in neutral terms. Not a single headline highlighted by Apple News presented Republican priorities in a positive manner, despite those issues resonating strongly with a large share of the electorate.
"In short, Apple News ensured that immigration was framed through court defeats and sensationalist stories; the economy through high gas prices; law and order through positive portrayals of police abolition; cuts to government through accusations of radicalism; foreign policy through portrayals of Americas adversaries as warriors; and efforts to curb waste through claims of unlawful cuts," Cornelio and Van Zant wrote. The MRC based its analysis on 10 leading Republican-aligned issues identified in recent polling: immigration and border security, the economy, law and order, reducing government spending, combating drug use, national security and foreign policy, taxes, countering terrorism, education and protecting the unborn.
Apple News has long faced accusations of leaning left, and earlier reporting showed that many of the tech giants senior executives and board members have funneled substantial donations to Democrats over multiple election cycles. Some conservatives had hoped that Apple News might rebalance under new CEO John Ternus, but a prior MRC review concluded that the service actually increased the share of stories from left-wing outlets during his first month at the helm.
For Republicans fighting to advance President Trumps agenda of secure borders, safe streets, fiscal restraint and protection of the unborn, the MRCs findings underscore how powerful gatekeepers in Big Tech can tilt the information battlefield without ever casting a vote. Apple did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital's request for comment, leaving unanswered who inside the company is shaping this editorial lineand why millions of Americans are being funneled almost exclusively toward coverage that disparages conservative priorities.
