Abdul El-Sayed Faces New Terror Watchlist Bombshell As Sister-In-Laws Airport Ordeal Resurfaces

S. Senate hopeful Abdul El-Sayed is facing renewed scrutiny after fresh reporting tied his family to yet another alleged terrorist, this time his wifes sister, who was reportedly placed on a federal terrorist watchlist during the Obama years.

According to Western Journal, conservative commentator Eric Daugherty highlighted the controversy on X, writing, Abdul Mohamed El Sayeds sister-in-law got placed on the terrorist watchlist by the HUSSEIN OBAMA ADMINISTRATION. Daugherty was referring to reports involving Mariam Jukaku, the sister of El-Sayeds wife, Sarah Jukaku, who stated in a federal lawsuit that she discovered she was on the terrorist watchlist in 2012.

In a 2016 legal filing, Jukaku recounted an incident at Detroit Metropolitan Airport in which her boarding pass was stamped with the SSSS designation, indicating that she had been designated as a known or suspected terrorist, according to The Midwesterner. The complaint added, While passing through security, she was subjected to extensive searches, pat downs and chemical testing, and noted that she subsequently filed grievances with multiple federal agencies.

The lawsuit further alleged that federal authorities never provided transparency about the basis for her designation. At no time was Ms. Jukaku given notice of the factual basis for her placement on the federal watch list, and at no time was she offered a meaningful opportunity to contest her designation, the filing stated.

Jukaku has since said she believes she was ultimately removed from the list, though the federal government has not confirmed that. The FBI, for its part, maintained that it is the U.S. governments policy to neither confirm nor deny a persons inclusion in the Terrorist Screening Dataset, commonly known as the terrorist watchlist, according to The Federalist.

The episode adds to a growing list of troubling associations surrounding El-Sayeds extended family that critics argue should alarm voters in a post-9/11, postOct. 7 world. El-Sayed has attempted to distance himself from these connections, yet his relatives own words have fueled concerns about ideological sympathies with radical Islamist movements.

His half-sister, University of Chicago professor Eman Abdelhadi, openly acknowledged the familys longstanding ties to the Muslim Brotherhood in a 2012 post. My family has long been MB, but Ive always felt that it has navigated the political sphere poorly/destructively, Abdelhadi wrote, underscoring a generational familiarity with the Islamist organization.

Abdelhadi has also publicly expressed support for Hamas, a U.S.-designated terrorist group, one year after its Oct. 7, 2023, massacre of Israeli civilians, according to Fox News. Marking the anniversary on Instagram on Oct. 7, 2024, she declared, I want to say, Allahu Akbar, in what she described as an October 7th blessing.

She went on to explain the religious phrase in explicitly political terms. That phrase means God is greater, and its an important phrase in the Muslim tradition, she noted, adding, Its one that Ive been thinking about a lot over the last year, because its a phrase that reminds us that no matter how great the brutality, the oppression, the intensity of what were going through, the horizon of justice is just around the corner, she said.

For Daugherty and many conservative voters, these patterns are not incidental but indicative of a worldview fundamentally at odds with American security interests and constitutional values. The accumulation of Islamic extremist links, he argued, should be disqualifying for anyone seeking high federal office.

Keep this guy as FAR AWAY FROM THE SENATE as humanly possible!! Daugherty wrote, urging Michigan voters to reject El-Sayed at the ballot box. He accused the Democrats campaign of stonewalling on the issue, saying, Abduls campaign was silent on it. Hes more focused on misleadingly calling himself a doctor despite his ties to the Muslim Brotherhood You dont have to worry about ANY OF THIS if Mike Rogers (R) is the next senator from Michigan! he wrote.

Daugherty framed the stakes in stark civilizational terms, warning that tolerating such associations in public life threatens the integrity of American institutions. Jihadism needs to be kept out of our institutions. Or were doomed as a republic, he wrote, capturing a sentiment that resonates deeply with voters who prioritize national security, cultural cohesion and a firm stand against Islamist extremism.

As El-Sayed continues his Senate bid, these unresolved questions about his familys ideological and alleged terror-linked background are likely to shadow his campaign, particularly among independents and security-minded Democrats. For conservatives, the episode reinforces a broader argument: that vigilance against radical Islamism must extend not only to foreign battlefields and border policy, but also to who is entrusted with power in Washington.
