Watch: NBA Legend Charles Barkley Breaks With Democrats On Crime, Immigration, And Voter IDAnd He Does Not Hold Back

Charles Barkley, never shy about speaking his mind, has once again broken with the progressive orthodoxy that dominates celebrity culture, blasting some of the Democratic Partys most radical ideas as the stupidest s*** Ive ever heard.

.

In a recent sit-down with journalist Chris Cuomo, the NBA Hall of Famer made clear that while he does not align with Republicans, he is equally unwilling to embrace the far-left agenda that has taken hold of much of the Democratic base, according to Western Journal. Barkley, whose public persona has long been that of a blunt, blue-collar truth-teller, used the interview to distance himself from the partys most extreme positions on crime, immigration, and economics, underscoring a growing frustration among moderate and independent voters with the Democratic Partys lurch to the left.

Listen, Im an independent whos voted Democratic most of the time, Barkley said in a clip from the interview posted to X, the platform formerly known as Twitter. You think that Im gonna get on TV and kill my credibility [by supporting all Democrats]?

From there, Barkley zeroed in on the radical rhetoric that has become commonplace among progressive activists and some elected Democrats. Some of these people are out here talking about no ICE [Immigration and Customs Enforcement], no prison, using words like socialism, he added.

Like, no, I dont believe in that. Wait, wait, no cops? I think thats some of the stupidest s*** Ive ever heard. What are we gonna do without cops? What are we gonna do without prisons?

His comments cut directly against the defund the police and prison abolition movements that gained traction in left-wing circles after the 2020 riots, movements that have coincided with surging crime in many Democrat-run cities. Barkleys incredulity reflects a common-sense perspective shared by many Americans who see law enforcement and incarceration as necessary to protect law-abiding citizens from violent offenders.

The basketball legend did not stop at criticizing fringe activists; he explicitly tied much of this stupidest s*** to Democratic politicians themselves. Like, Ive seen some of these politicians, and Im like, This is the stupidest s*** ever. And a lot of them, most of them have been Democrats, he continued.

I think thats some of the stupidest s*** Ive ever heard.

On immigration, Barkley staked out a position that rejects both open borders and blind hostility to immigrants, a stance far closer to traditional American norms than to the lefts current posture. He acknowledged the failures of federal enforcement while insisting that the United States cannot simply abandon its borders.

Now, ICE has to do a much better job, he said. Much better job. We cant just let people come across the border. We cant do that. But ICE has to do a better job. We need immigrants in this country. Theyre some of the most amazing, hardworking people in the world. But we need to get rid of the crooked immigrants.

By crooked immigrants, Barkley was plainly referring to those who exploit lax enforcement to commit fraud, drug trafficking, and violent crime, a concern conservatives have raised for years. His remarks echo the argument that America benefits from legal, law-abiding immigrants while suffering when officials refuse to distinguish between honest workers and dangerous criminals.

Barkley also briefly addressed a core issue for conservatives: election integrity. You need to have ID when you go vote, he said.

That simple statement puts him at odds with Democratic leaders who routinely denounce voter ID laws as voter suppression, despite overwhelming public support for such measures and the basic reality that identification is required for countless everyday activities. The insistence that elections be both accessible and secure has been a cornerstone of conservative advocacy, and Barkleys stance aligns squarely with that principle.

WARNING: The following clip contains vulgar language that may be offensive to some viewers.

Although Barkley has made no secret of his dislike for President Donald Trump, he has increasingly sounded like a throwback to an older, more moderate Democratic tradition that valued law and order, border security, and personal responsibility. In March, for instance, he appeared to take a more expansive pro-immigrant tone than in his conversation with Cuomo, underscoring that his views are nuanced rather than partisan talking points.

At the same time, Barkley has not hesitated to call out Democrats for their cynical political tactics, particularly regarding race. He has previously accused the party of using black Americans as political props, a charge that resonates with many conservatives who argue that the left takes minority votes for granted while delivering little in return.

Barkleys latest comments highlight a broader political realignment in which everyday voters including some high-profile cultural figures are increasingly unwilling to go along with the Democratic Partys most radical experiments in social policy. His blunt rejection of socialism, open borders, anti-police rhetoric, and opposition to voter ID reflects a sentiment that Washington elites and progressive activists often ignore: Americans want safety, fairness, and accountability, not ideological extremism dressed up as progress.
